90 Shoeboxes - a record for CJD International School!

For the past few years, Christmas in a Shoebox (a project supported by the Samaritan’s Purse) has been run in our school. The Christmas magic doesn’t only start in December but way back in September! In Global Perspectives, Y8 made a timeline and deadline, wrote a letter, constructed a presentation and created beautiful posters to engage all students from Early Years to Year 12 about Christmas in a Shoebox. 

In October, it was time to start collecting. Y4 had a fantastic idea that they would collectively make boxes, so they all brought exciting presents, decorated the boxes and filled them to the brim. They brought so many wonderful gifts that Y8 could use their extra gifts to create many more boxes. Similarly, each student from Y10 had their name on a box.

The work is not over once the boxes have been brought to school. Y8 checked the boxes, tried their best to make sure every child would receive an equally fantastic present with: tooth brushes and tooth paste; useful items; school supplies; fun toys. They also had to wrap or re-wrap some boxes to ensure that they could be opened once collected.

After all the packing, wrapping and labelling, the boxes were delivered to a car garage for later collection by Samaritan’s Purse.

90 SHOEBOXES, that is a CJD International School Record! Let’s make it 100 in 2026!!

Here's what our 4th grade students say about why they are participating this project:
 

"I like helping kids around the world. Some children do not get any gifts in special events. We do this task by taking a shoebox from home then buying or taking nice things to school. Then we put our things that we got from home. After that, we wrapped the shoebox with gift wrapping paper and decorated it. Finally, we put these together in a truck. The gifts go to children around Europe."

"Christmas in a Shoe Box is a donation for children who don’t get Christmas presents. We did this because some children around the world don’t get Christmas gifts. I was proud of myself that I could help other children."

"We participated in this project because we can delight some children and their families with presents on Christmas Eve. You all can join us for next year and help us make more children happy.This year we got together over 90 presents . I feel very delighted that our school had the opportunity to plant a wonderful memory in the back of their minds. To put a smile in their faces, and that they will have a special surprise on Christmas Eve. I feel so proud that the school has achieved this and we have gotten to over 90 boxes. Each box we make is one more child we make happy."
