Visit of the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland
This trip was related to topics from the IGCSE History curriculum. On the first day, the students explored the grounds of the former concentration camps Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II Birkenau. During the guided tour, we discussed the history of the camp, the Nazi ideology, and the life of the people who lived there. The students gained a detailed understanding of the extent of the Nazis' crimes, which helped in shaping their perspectives on tolerance, human rights, peace, and democracy. On the second day, the students worked with historical sources directly connected to the fates of people who lived in the camp, gaining a deeper understanding of the history of the people and the conditions in the camp. The excursion concluded with a city tour of Krakow, organised by a Y12 student, where we explored the Jewish quarter and parts of the former Ghetto.
